Pokey's - 2003 Safari

by Courtney (age 12)

I’ve been to various Two River’s Jeep Club events here in Pittsfield. Every time, I look forward to Pokey’s Run. It’s a tradition with us.

The day started out with the driver’s meeting at the trailhead. Soon after, we got into our vehicles and turned our CB to channel 16 and chatted and introduced ourselves. We met many people out of state, such as Arizona and Wisconsin. We had about 12 to 16 Jeeps and one blue Bronco. Only once a Jeep had t be strapped, toward the end of the day. We had good weather, but in the late morning it drizzled for about 20 minutes.

Around noon we had one major stall - one of the Jeepers lost his keys (which had fallen out while he was driving). While Pokey took some of us back on the trail to look for the keys, Pokey’s son Billy and a bunch of guys ripped out the ignition switch and within an hour, got the Jeep going with a Leatherman handy tool. In the meantime, Rick had moved on with the group, but we were reunited rather quickly.

We hope everyone had a great time and will come to the 4X4 Blast and the next Safari. Thanks to Rick, Lou, Billy and Pokey, we all had a great time and made it back safely. So the next time you come, take Pokey’s Run and join the “Two River’s Jeep Club.”
